Daily network puzzle #296

The developer edition: the same address as today's country puzzle, but the question is which operator announces it. Three tries, one puzzle per day, no account needed.

  • Country: Китай
  • City we resolve: Hangzhou
  • Address block: 205.204.96.0/19

Which operator announces this address?

How it works

Every address on the internet sits in a block that some network announces to the rest of the world, and the registry records who that is. Big operators hold hundreds of blocks, so the same name shows up under very different countries — a cloud provider is registered wherever it is cheapest, and its customers' addresses inherit that.

Two of the four choices are usually household names in hosting or telecoms, so the useful clue is the address block: some operators announce a single large range, others hundreds of small ones. The answer is the operator in the registry, which is not always the brand you bought the connection from — resellers exist.

Your streak is kept in your browser only, separately from the country puzzle. The data is the same as the network and country pages, and the tools page can check any of it by hand.
